Origins Missiongathering was started by several young adults from the San Diego area who were disenchanted with the institutional church. From it's initial beginnings this group of friends and spiritual seekers began to use words like open, organic, emergent, fluid, and ever-evolving to describe their community. They wanted to embody God's grace to the emerging/postmodern culture they were a part of. To take ancient symbols and the story of God's grace and live out what they mean for us today. This community of faith—this gathering of restless spiritual wanderers from all over San Diego County--found a safe haven for Christian spirituality as opposed to religious institutionalism. And after several years of ministry in Rancho Bernardo and La Jolla what came to be called Missiongathering began to seek the next phase in this evolving community. Missiongathering San Diego and Beyond On June 4, 2006 Missiongathering started a vibrant new gathering in uptown San Diego. We are meeting Sun. mornings @ 10:00am in The Sunset Ballroom @ Claire de Lune's Coffee Lounge. This faith community continues to strive to be open, organic, emergent, fluid, and evolving and looks forward to the chance to continue to embody the reality of a loving God in the heart of San Diego... continuing the story of God's grace. To keep building friendships with people who have been disenchanted with much of mainstream Christianity and the institution of the church. As the movement of Missiongathering grows we expect more opportunities to plant new gatherings throughout San Diego... and beyond. The Disciples' have a rich and diverse history driven not by dogma and creed, but by a welcoming Christ and a foundation built on the bible, baptism, communion, and freedom of belief.
